Why Ted and Marisel Chose Sequoia Georgetown for Their Wedding
Ted and Marisel met while working together in New York City, and what started as a friendship quickly blossomed into something deeper. They decided to get married at Sequoia Georgetown after their initial plans were altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the constraints that came with the pandemic, they wanted a venue that was not only beautiful but also spacious enough to allow them to adhere to safety protocols while still creating a memorable celebration. Sequoia was perfect for this. Its stunning indoor and outdoor spaces allowed the couple to host a small and intimate wedding while still ensuring their guests were comfortable and safe.
Sequoia’s location in Georgetown is a prime feature—it’s nestled right on the Potomac River, offering an incredible view of the water and the city. The venue’s design is modern and chic, with sleek lines and beautiful, expansive windows that provide breathtaking views. It was the perfect venue for Ted and Marisel’s intimate wedding, which was both elegant and relaxed. The outdoor terrace, which overlooks the river, was especially appealing for them, offering both a beautiful view and enough space to accommodate their guests safely.
A COVID Wedding with Heartfelt Moments
Given the circumstances of the pandemic, Ted and Marisel’s wedding had to adapt to the evolving restrictions and guidelines. It was a micro wedding—small, intimate, and filled with the most important people in their lives. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the day was filled with warmth, love, and joy. With a smaller guest list, they were able to create an environment that felt personal and close-knit. Masks were included as part of the ceremony, and while COVID certainly impacted many aspects of the planning, Ted and Marisel made sure their wedding still felt incredibly special.
The wedding ceremony itself was held at the Blessed Sacrament DC Church, followed by a reception at Sequoia Georgetown. The couple loved the idea of having a private venue for the reception, where they could keep things intimate and adjust to the ever-changing restrictions. The ability to have tables spaced six feet apart while still enjoying a beautiful and warm atmosphere made Sequoia the ideal location for their celebration.

Personal Touches and Unique Elements of Their Day
One of the most touching elements of their wedding was the cake. In a time when so many wedding traditions had to be adjusted or even canceled, the cake served as a beautiful symbol of normalcy. It was a gorgeous multi-tiered creation, perfectly reflecting the elegant vibe of the day. The couple also paid close attention to small details like the table decor, which had a warm, inviting color palette of soft neutrals, ensuring that everything felt calm and serene.
Ted and Marisel wanted to make sure that despite the challenges, their wedding day felt like a true celebration of their love. They were determined to keep the focus on what mattered most—each other, their families, and their closest friends. It was a day filled with meaningful moments, from personal vows to the heartfelt toast shared with their loved ones.

Navigating a COVID Wedding: The Challenges and How We Made It Work
As their wedding planner, one of my main roles was to help Ted and Marisel navigate the ever-changing guidelines and make adjustments to their plans as needed. DC’s restrictions were constantly shifting, which made it difficult to plan with certainty. There were times when we had to pivot quickly and make adjustments to ensure that the wedding adhered to the latest guidelines. It wasn’t always easy, but my goal was always to ensure Ted and Marisel were able to have the celebration they dreamed of, even if it meant making quick adjustments.
We also helped them make sure that their guests were comfortable and safe while still creating a joyous atmosphere. I worked closely with the venue to coordinate the logistics, from seating arrangements to ensuring guests had the space they needed to feel at ease.

Why Ted and Marisel Chose to Work with Me
Ted and Marisel were referred to me by the bride’s sister, whose wedding I had also had the pleasure of planning. After hearing about their sister’s experience working with me, Ted and Marisel felt confident that I would be the perfect fit to help them plan their COVID wedding. They appreciated my experience in managing weddings with strict health and safety guidelines and my ability to adapt quickly to changes. It was such a pleasure working with them, and I’m so glad I was able to help bring their vision to life at Sequoia Georgetown.

What they said about working with us:
“We are so happy to have had Colleen help us with our wedding planning, especially as we had to change plans a few times due to COVID. Colleen helped us plan and organize our small intimate wedding and dinner in October of 2020, and then our delayed reception in October of 2021. She helped us find vendors, finalized timelines, and handled all coordination between the venues and the vendors. Colleen kept everyone organized both leading up to the events and on the days of. We are so thankful that she had everything under control, and we could just relax and enjoy each day!”
