As I said in an earlier post, the modern man has to keep up with their ever changed female counterparts. This difference is ever so clear in the work place. Modern women graduate college and work for traditional men where the women are seen as secretaries or note takers. This generation difference is very clear in these offices.
I have experienced both the good and the bad side of this generation gap. My first job out of college I was working in a very transitional/old school thinking industry. What I learned was in order for me to be taken seriously, I had to take myself seriously. I was always trying to look put together and to make sure I was confident in my ideas and suggestions. I wasn't "dumbing" myself down or apologizing This worked in my benefit. I do feel that I earned respect from my male superiors. No, it wasn't perfect, but the people who respected me are the important people!
I have also been on the other side of this. I was working a WORK golf tournament that was full of CPAs. I was shocked and embarrassed with some of the things that were said to me. So much so I am not even going to repeat them on this blog. I was so upset! How could these men still be treating women like this? The silver lining in all of this was that these comments weren't being said by my male peers but rather the old school, older generation thinkers. Maybe there is still hope!
